FULHAM VS MANCHESTER CITY

The crazy nine-goal thriller at Craven Cottage: Fulham 4–Manchester City 5. City got a huge win, but honestly it came with way more stress than it should have. Erling Haaland set the tone by becoming the fastest player in PL history to hit 100 goals (just 111 games), and Phil Foden was outstanding too with a brace. By the hour mark City were cruising at 5–1, and it looked like game over,but then everything just fell apart. City got complacent and their defence completely collapsed, letting Fulham storm back into the match. Samuel Chukwueze was unbelievable, dragging Fulham back with three quick goals to make it 5–4. In the end City literally had to rely on a last-ditch goal-line clearance from Gvardiol to avoid what would’ve been a historic choke. They got the three points thanks to their attack, but the defensive issues are going to give Pep a headache for sure.

NEWCASTLE VS TOTTEHAM HOTSPURS

The other big game at St James’ Park ended in a dramatic 2–2 draw between Newcastle and Tottenham. Newcastle were the better side for most of the match, especially after Bruno Guimarães came on and scored a beautiful curling effort to give them the lead. Then things really kicked off late on. VAR gave Newcastle a penalty for a holding foul on Dan Burn during a corner, and Anthony Gordon slotted it home to make it 2–1, but Spurs didn’t give up. Cristian Romero had already scored their first equaliser with a diving header, but he saved the moment of the match for the 99th minute. After a chaotic set piece, the ball fell to him and he pulled off an acrobatic overhead kick to rescue a point. For Newcastle, it honestly felt like a gut punch — they blew a late lead twice. For Spurs, it was a bit of a smash-and-grab, but they showed real mental strength to claw their way back right at the end.

ARSENAL VS BRENTFORD

Arsenal were efficient once again as they defeated Brentford by two goals to nil, not the most dominant display from them this season but still enough to keep their five point lead at the top of the table ahead of Manchester City. Mikel Merino who continues to shine as the clubs top scorer in 2025 opened the scoring with a powerful header that set the tone for the night. Brentford had moments where they threatened and even struck the crossbar, but they could not break down Arsenal’s defensive structure. The bad news for Arsenal was the sight of Mosquera going off injured which raises concerns as Saliba and Gabriel are still out and the depth in defense is starting to look thin. In the closing stages after the substitutions Bukayo Saka stepped up and finished the game off with his seventh league goal of the season, a goal that sealed the three points and kept momentum alive. Arsenal look serious and hungry this year, the football is not always smooth but the results are coming and it feels like they are pushing for something special. The only question left is whether this is finally their year for glory or if they will fall short again when it matters most.

LEEDS UNITED VS CHELSEA

A disastrous night at Elland Road for Chelsea Football Club where they came in hoping to secure three points and continue their good form after beating Barcelona and putting up a strong fight with ten men against Arsenal, but the defense decided to write a very different story. Leeds took control early and were two goals up by halftime, with Tamaka’s long range strike putting Chelsea under pressure and leaving them chasing the game. In the second half Chelsea found a spark again when Neto scored quickly to bring life and momentum back into the team, but just as hope was building the experienced centre back Tosin made a costly error which gifted Leeds their third and completely shifted the mood. Shoulders dropped, confidence faded and although Chelsea pushed to fight back Leeds held firm with disciplined defending and refused to let the attackers through. The bigger question now is whether Chelsea can respond from this setback, pick themselves up for the upcoming fixtures and return to winning ways or if this loss becomes the start of another frustrating run.

LIVERPOOL VS SUNDERLAND

Yet another disappointing night at Anfield where Liverpool failed to secure a win against Sunderland, a side who are surprising everyone with strong performances in their first season back in the Premier League and who have already shown they can compete with the top clubs. Liverpool created many chances yet the attackers could not find a breakthrough in the first half, and Sunderland stayed patient and organised before capitalising on a defensive mistake to take the lead in the sixty seventh minute through Chemsdine Talbi. Liverpool finally responded when a shot from Florian Wirtz took a heavy deflection and found the net, though the officials judged it to be an own goal by Mukiele which means Wirtz is still waiting for his first goal in red. The concerning part for Liverpool is not just the dropped points but the ongoing inconsistency, as they have won only three of their last ten matches and the frustration among supporters continues to grow. The question now is whether Arne Slot can turn this around and guide the team towards Champions League qualification, because the race for the top four looks fierce and failure to reach it might put serious pressure on his position.

MANCHESTER UNITED VS WEST HAM

Manchester United once again failed to capitalise after taking the lead, with the opener coming from an unlikely scorer in Diogo Dalot. With Chelsea and Liverpool dropping points this weekend, United had a big chance to close the gap and move up the table, but instead let it slip. West Ham, who have had a season just as inconsistent as United, equalised late in the 83rd minute after Nuno made changes that shifted the momentum. United fans will be boiling knowing they could have reached twenty four points and applied pressure on the teams above them, but instead walk away frustrated. The match was end to end with United looking the more threatening side in attack and defensively solid until the equaliser, after which shape and control faded as West Ham pushed harder to steal a win. In the end it finished level, and United supporters who have already lived through a difficult recent season are left asking the same question again-can Ruben Amorim finally get his tactics right and bring back the glory days to Manchester United Football Club?
